“Human vs. Nature”
We got an early start and spent the day with friends in and around New Paltz, stopping at a nearby orchard to load up on apples and other yummy byproducts. Once again, the weather was just right. On our way back, I spotted this small lake off the side of the road. Even though it appears to have been a very accessible location, it wasn’t really so, which made it all the more worth it. I don’t usually take panoramas but that landscape begged for one. While the power lines made for a strong subject, I wanted to show much more of the natural environment. I couldn’t think of any better composition, suggestive of a real power struggle between Human and Nature.
This photograph is composed of three hand-held shots taken just seconds apart. Since the sun was playing hide and seek with the clouds, timing was key. Any change in illumination would have pretty much ruined the panorama. As I wrote it yesterday, I had a foliage shot in mind for today’s photograph, but one obviously has to keep his eyes open for other shooting opportunities. With peak season a couple of weeks away, I still have a fairly large window to capture many more shots of the New York Indian summer.
