Project 365 – Day 71

“Fountain Pen Nostalgia”
In this day and age, less and less people are actually writing with a pen. We have been computerized. Emails have replaced letters… SMS have replaced emails… our World is constantly evolving to reach a higher degree of “efficiency”. I don’t think it’s too far fetched for me to dress a parallel between the digitization of writing and photography. While the end result may carry the same message, the new medium cannot fully supplant the former. There’s a very unique feel to film, or to a handcrafted letter. Writing a letter may not be efficient, but it tells the recipient that you care, simply by going the extra mile to actually sit down and take the time to write it.
I will be the first one to admit that I barely do it anymore… but when I do, I also realize how much I missed it. I never minded the commute between Fleetwood and Grand Central, on the contrary. I would get a daily hour of free time, where I could read, write or simply think, uninterrupted. I used to carry this notebook with me. Nowadays it just sits there and accumulates dust, like my desk. At least, I am aware of it. Doing a project 365 already turned my photography predicament around, so it’s only a matter of time before I get back into that groove again, too.
