“Human Nature”

We were walking along the Bronx River, in a narrow park that runs for a few miles. Jasmine was enjoying the ducks and the feeling of being able to run around in nature -almost- freely. Some inconsiderate people seemed to have enjoyed it so much they didn’t even bother to take their litter with them. I had a different vision for this shot. I wish I could have shown a better contrast between the trash and the beauty of nature behind it. Unfortunately, a road was running in the background so I had to frame it differently. I hope the message still comes across though.

“Up The Stairwell”

That day was rich in photo opportunities. We were invited by friends of ours at the 1st birthday of their baby daughter. It was taking place on the rooftop of their apartment building, with a 360 degrees view of Queens and Manhattan. I kick myself regularly for not seizing opportunities like that one, just shoot and stop being so picky about the lighting, the angle, and so on. The sunset was boring so I waited and took some night shots. Since I wasn’t satisfied with that either, I ended up walking in the stairwell where I finally found my inspiration.

“Off To Bed”

Already, it was late in the day and I hadn’t taken any shot. What’s best than my prime subject, my daughter? She was being mischievous, hiding the television remote control, probably trying to get more viewing than allocated by us. Using a flash would probably have been a bright idea. Most of the time, I try not to and just make use of available light. Most of the time, I can afford it. You be the judge.

“At The Playground”

Finally. After an unsuccessful start 8 months ago, I’m back at it. Project 365 is a challenge undertaken by quite a few photographers: one photo for each day of the year. Certainly not an easy one, especially when you aspire to produce something of quality, at the very least interesting. There are only so many hours in a day and midnight comes at you fast. In January, I didn’t even last a full week. I simply forgot to take one and that was the end of it. Well, I’m challenging myself again. Let’s see how long I last this time.

This one was taken at our local playground, in Fleetwood. Jasmine kept going for things that weren’t hers such as baby strollers and dolls, until she found a small abandoned toy car that she quickly adopted. She played with it everywhere until I pictured that shot and had to take it. Shot with my Canon 5D and Canon EF 50mm f/1.4. I just love that lens, a great combo.
