Project 365 – Day 43

“My Wife’s Guitar”
I’m starting to have a well-oiled routine when it comes to taking my daily shot, but once in a while I get to the end of the day wondering what will be my next subject. Today was one of those days. Here I am, walking from room to room in search of inspiration. Kitchen… office… living room… a guitar case! I’ve been meaning to take a photo of my wife’s guitar for a while so I took it out and tried a few different angles. I wish I had a few backdrops for those types of shots but I don’t; I just have to get creative with what I have.
I used a piece of black foam board on the right as the background, and my reflector on the left to get some light bouncing off the side of the guitar. I wanted to get everything sharp on that one, so I used my tripod and went all the way to f/16 on a 30 seconds exposure. I was initially going for color, but I didn’t realize that my reflector gave a blue cast to the side of the guitar… I had two types of lighting conflicting with one another, tungsten and the cooler bounced light. I shot this close to midnight so I had no time for a do-over. I converted the photo to black and white.
