“On The Tracks”
The Applefest festival gathers hundreds of artisans and craftsmen in Warwick each year, a small town in Orange County. We found its name to be a little misleading as very few farmers were actually there to sell any apple products. Nevertheless, it was an interesting festival with an extremely diverse crowd and even a small fair to entertain the youngest generation. Street photography heaven.
These seemingly disused train tracks caught my attention as we were making our way through the crowd. They are running through Warwick, making them quite impossible to miss. When you see this shot, it’s hard to imagine that I have my back turned to a few thousands visitors. Probably tired with all the noise, some people would eventually walk up those tracks away from the festival.
As you can see, the clouds were quite amazing, letting through more than enough light. I focused on the foreground to maximize details in the wood and metal of the bridge. The background itself was boring to me but the couple of people and clouds spiced it up a little, to whom I am thankful for. I also found the lonely bike to be a vital element of this photo as it can help tell a story. The black and white conversion became an obvious choice once I tried it, really bringing the shot to life.
