“The Old Flowery Print”
Between removing the carpets, sanding the hardwood floors, painting the walls and ceilings… we did a lot of work when we first got into our current apartment. One room, however, was left untouched: the kitchen. Lacking the proper tools at the time, we never got to take down that ugly wallpaper. I slowly grew accustomed to it, up to the point that I don’t even pay attention to it anymore. In my nightly quest for inspiration, I was forced to take a second look at my surroundings… until I eventually made eye contact with the flowery print.
The print itself would have been an extremely boring photo to take and look at. Fortunately – or unfortunately – for me, there are some striking additions to this wall. One of them, this old two-prong outlet, which cache is adorned with the same wallpaper in an obviously failed attempt to make it blend with its immediate environment. By the way, I wasn’t drunk when I pressed the shutter button: it is really crooked. The tricky part on such a shot is to end up with a pleasing composition. Very few elements and they aren’t necessarily the most appealing on the block. I eventually followed my instinct to frame it. Click!
