A Digital Scavenger Hunt

October 10th, 2010 Leave a comment Go to comments

I’ve been a member of Blog Catalog for about a year, but it’s not until recently that I started to appreciate the camaraderie between members of the site. Many of the bloggers are genuinely good writers and artists, so there’s always an interesting read. One of them, Antonia Blanca (aka LiftingMeUp), launched a photographic scavenger hunt with October 10th as a deadline. She came up with the following eight themes:

1. Concrete
2. Energy
3. Lost
4. Dance
5. Autumn
6. Smile
7. Confusion
8. Funny

I decided to use a common theme of my own for the scavenger hunt: my daughter, Jasmine. All the shots I used are part of the project 365 – a photo a day for a year – that I’ve been working on since August 2009. Some of them I took especially for the scavenger hunt, while some others I felt didn’t need a replacement and as such, are a little older. Without further ado, here they are!

1. Concrete – Day 62 – Standing Tall

2. Energy – Day 391 – Jump! Jump! Jump!

3. Lost – Day 385 – At Costco

4. Dance – Day 413 – Little Ballerina

5. Autumn – Day 102 – Running Through The Woods

6. Smile – Day 419 – Future Geek

7. Confusion – Day 314 – Am I In Trouble?

8. Funny – Day 363 – Unruly Rider

Before you leave this page, I invite you to take a look at what the other participants in the scavenger hunt came up with:

Thanks guys! She’s a great subject to work with, been so used to my camera since she was born that she actually enjoys modeling for me.

I like the way you had your daughter in all the pics – nice way to tie them together!

    Hiya Jérôme!

Your scavenger hunt interpretation was one I was most looking forward too and of course, you didn’t disappoint. What a fantastic idea to use your daughter as a common subject for all the theme. I particularly like the concrete photo which for me can be interpreted as lost as well. Against that wall, she is so tiny against that vastness of grey. I love the confusion photo as well. The red colour of that cushion in the background and the chair is such a contrast against the other neutral colours. And also, that expression on your daughter’s face is simply priceless.

Thanks for the compliment Funkkeejooce. I was torn myself when it came to the photo I used for concrete, but I eventually had to choose. Confusion… I have so many of these. I may feel like pulling my hair when something like this happens, but I can’t help capturing a frame or two. After the fact, they’re great memories. And could probably fit funny too… grrrrrrr Jasmine!

    Thank you Hank, much appreciated!

Exactly how i would take the picture subject if i was participating, although it would never be such beautiful like this, the clear pictures focuses on the subject and emphatically describes the heading with only one interpretation. Really liked the pictures.

I’m really glad you liked them Arjun, thanks for your kind comment. And… never say never :) Inspiration is key, let the chips fall where they may.

Oh, you brought in a ringer! Not fair! I knew I should have used a super-cute little girl in more pictures!
Good job, either way, I guess :)

Ahahah! You did too! Granted, not everywhere. I can’t help it… Anyway, thanks, I guess :)
