Day 499 – A Dock In Rockland

December 22nd, 2010 No comments

December 17, 2010

Maine is home to many harbors, and Rockland is one of them. An old saying would go: “Camden by the sea, Rockland by the smell”. Indeed, it used to be a fairly large yet unfortunately rundown fishing city. To the delight of its inhabitants, it is now transforming into a very popular tourist destination. I took this shot at sunset from the dock of an old Norwegian schooner.

Day 498 – Acadia National Park

December 16, 2010

Where do I begin? I’m at a loss for superlatives. Gorgeous, simply gorgeous. We drove throughout the island without a map, not really knowing where to go. It really didn’t matter. I’d stop every five minutes or so to capture yet another magnificent scenery. Here, you can clearly see the chain of Acadian mountains, one of which is Cadillac. “At 1,530 feet, Cadillac is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard and officially catches North America’s first light from October 7 to March 6.” (source: National Park Service) I have many more photographs of Acadia to show you and you won’t want to miss it.

Day 497 – Bill

December 15, 2010

I’ve been following Bill’s photoblog for a few months now. Since he is a long time resident of Maine, I got in touch with him to ask for a few pointers prior to our vacationing there. It so happens that he lives in a city that we had planned to visit, Hallowell, so we met with him there. He was the best of guides and we really had a great time. I recommend you check out his website, where you will find more photographs of this beautiful region. Or, if you have the chance, directly visit the gallery where he exposes his art, in Hallowell. Thanks again, Bill, for being so kind and helpful.

Day 496 – The Flume Cottage

Samoset resort’s most prized accommodation. John Travolta usually spends his Christmas week there with his family. The Rockland Breakwater lighthouse was behind me when I took this shot. Yet another view of this beautiful resort. As a side note, we found over ten golf balls as we were walking along the shore, which turned into an improvised set of petanque for my daughter.

Day 495 – Portland Graffiti

December 21st, 2010 No comments

December 13, 2010

We stopped in Portland on our way back. It was a rainy Monday and most of the museums were closed so we ended up not doing much. Except having another fabulous lunch. However, I did spot that seemingly hidden area as we were walking through the city center. Even though it was raining, I couldn’t pass the opportunity to capture it. Isn’t that old mattress a nice touch?
