My wife and daughter came to greet me in Boston, where we stayed overnight. My daughter’s box of crayons made for a good example of what can be achieved with a wide angle macro lens. I think I’m going to have a lot of fun with it.

I stayed in Paris with a friend over the weekend. We spent Saturday afternoon walking around the city. I felt like a tourist in my own country, which was amusing. I was surprised to say the least to see the do-it-yourself method this street vendor was using to roast and sell his chestnuts. I asked him to pose for me. I soon realized he wasn’t the only one, albeit none of them were official. I missed the snowstorm by a couple of days but as you can tell here, it was still very cold.

I probably could have taken a million better photographs that day, but I guess I was too focused on the interview to bother looking around me. Then once it was over, I just wanted to relax. I do apologize for another boring picture. I promise, the next ones will be better.

You might be wondering if there’s something wrong with your monitor… nope! What you are looking at is a beautiful photograph of the inside of my lens cap. At that time, I was flying from Montreal to Paris, initially taking off from Boston. I hadn’t taken a single photograph that day – and for good reason, I was driving most of the time – and wasn’t feeling inspired aboard the plane, so I used my joker card: shooting inside my camera bag. I knew the day would come that I’d be so uninspired I’d do it. Why Paris? An interview. That’s definitely the longest I’ve traveled to land a job (it paid off, I got it). So here I was, up in the air, watching “Inception” and trying to get some sleep. It was the first time that I flew on Air Canada and I wasn’t disappointed. Well equipped planes, nice crew, good on-board programming. First time I’ve seen headphones that you could actually reuse after the flight: well designed, a good fit in the ear and they don’t leak sound out like the cheap iPod ones do.

We took advantage of a beautiful day to go for a hike in the Camden Hills State Park. Given the steepness of the trail, I just went with my dad. It took us a little over an hour to reach Ocean Lookout, and it was well worth it. While the Megunticook trail itself wasn’t particularly scenic, the view from the top was really gorgeous. We arrived near sunset, overlooking Camden and the Penobscot Bay. We can also see Samoset and Owl’s Head on the right, near the horizon. As you might have noticed in yesterday’s photograph already, I am making use of a new lens: I received a 24mm for my birthday. The wider angle is really appreciable, something that I’ve missed dearly in the past.
