I have a lot of catch up to do! We spent the last two weeks in Maine with my parents, a very relaxing and much needed vacation. During that time, I also traveled to Paris for an interview, so it was good to be able to relax not only prior to it but also after. Maine is such a beautiful state, I really wish we could have stayed longer.
After our long drive from New York, these birch trees welcomed us when we arrived to the resort. The light nicely painted their trunks and branches, inspiring me to take this shot.

A little walk in a park nearby us. Golden hour. Golden leaves. A day with mixed feelings: enjoyed gaining an hour, deplored seeing the sun set so early.

The Sunken Forest is a very unique ecosystem found in Sailor’s Haven, on Fire Island. Surrounded by dunes, it gives the illusion of resting below sea level, hence its name. The vegetation is so abundant that it actually gets rather dark inside the forest. It’s also much cooler, something that was really appreciated after the long walk under the scorching sun.
As you can see on the photograph, trees adopt some very interesting shapes. Due to salt spraying and windy conditions, they are molded and unable to grow past a certain height. You guessed it, the height of the surrounding dunes. I enjoyed my walk there very much. The tide was so high that the whole beach was getting flooded by the incoming waves, an interesting experience.

“Street Light”
One of those lazy rainy days… next time you know it’s 11:30 PM and a photo yet to be taken. I went outside for a little walk and came back with this shot. It was taken at ISO 1600 and f/1.4. While I like how it came out, I also wish I had something more substantial to say about it without sounding redundant. I don’t. I would be interested to hear what you think of it though.
